My Bones Are Singing

By: Those Lavender Whales

Released: April 7, 2017

The second album from Those Lavender Whales (produced, recorded, and mixed by Chaz Bundick) grapples with frustration with ever-decreasing time, questioning your place in the universe, and the possible nonexistence of spiritual authority in a capricious world.

Ennui Go

By: Can't Kids

Released: May 6, 2014

"Ennui Go" is Can't Kids' second full length release. Each track exists in and creates its own world (and what worlds they are) from "Oh Momma"'s menacing maternal love to "The Calm"'s plaintive but aggrieved resignation to "The Twist"'s unhinged sociopathic affirmation, and on and on as Ennui Go goes on. But to focus on the songs separately would miss the genius of the album and of the band who are languidly observing and responding to a world that is as achingly gorgeous as it is terrifying and blisteringly fast. It's that world, our world, that the album as a whole inhabits, with Cullum using every knife in the kitchen drawer to hone lyrical figures and to brandish mildly in exuberant paranoia while the band plays on, playing Ennui Go.

Brushes Touches Tongues

By: Can't Kids

Released: July 10, 2012

The self-proclaimed “Appalachian Cheerleader Metal” quartet Can't Kids' songs are self-aware: prideful and damning, confrontational and confident. All this stirs up a raucousness inside that you haven't felt since punk rock, only this time there is a frailty from years of dormancy. With “Brushes Touches Tongues,” Can't Kids take their songs out of the house where they live (Shredquarters), practice, and oftentimes perform; and bring them into the studio where all of the intricacies that become lost in a crowded room can be showcased. Adam & Jessica's vocals weave in and out of each other, echoing, arguing, and combining to create an album that loves, hates, and feels alright.
