With regard to socially aware music one debates which deserves more focus, the ideology or the aural esthetic? Luckily with Southern Femisphere, regardless of which is your focal point, you are left feeling inspired and warm inside. Through their multi-part vocal harmonies, counterpoint derived guitar/bass riffs, and ultra-epic-post-punk pop these four musicians are able to communicate poetic messages of empowerment and social equity. However they don’t just talk the talk, this group has credentials in both their social efforts and musicianship! Half of Southern Femisphere’s members are educators in the public school system, all four members contribute at various levels to their local chapter of Girls Rock, and the majority of the group has studied music academically at some capacity. Like many socio-political rock groups, Southern Femisphere has something to say, and fortunately for us listeners it sounds pretty damn good.
