Hey friends!

This time of the year many folks openly reflect and discuss their thankfulness on the internet. Mushy, Hallmark-vibed feelings of gratitude are spread throughout cyberspaces and office places. And we want to take this time to also play into this cliche and talk about some of the things we are thankful for.

First and foremost, we are thankful for the past. Particularly all of the rad Columbia, SC musicians who have inspired us for as long as we have been paying attention. Like so many people, going to shows introduced us to like-minded folks and saved us from feeling like social norms would dictate what the rest of our life would be like. That type of community molded us and is something we hope to return to others in some capacity. For your enjoyment, we have assembled a 13-track mix of bands who have influenced us in one way or another over the past 15 years. It is streamable below and free to download HERE. (Disclaimer: this by no means even close to resembling an accurate "best-of Columbia's past" compilation. Just some songs that we were and are currently fond of.).

Secondly, we are thankful for the present. And to emphasize the love we try to promote, we have made some logo-adorned heart mugs. They are available in our online store for $6. We are also running a special. If you feel like spreading some love, $10 will result in a mug for yourself and one being shipped to a friend (inquire for international shipping rates).

Lastly, we are thankful for the future. And because Fork and Spoon operates as a vessel for the music we believe in we ultimately just want you to hear it. Your purchases keep us putting out records. When you pay for downloads on an artist's Bandcamp page you help them out significantly. But if you are broke and want to download our records they are now up in our store for free. Eventually there will be a "pay what you want" feature, but for now it is just a link to download the record. Please order things if/when you can, but in the meantime please listen to all of it and share it with anyone that you feel will find enjoyment in it.

We are grateful for the past 2 1/2 years of learning a little bit about how to be a record label and we look forward to working towards many many more. Thank you for all of your encouragement, patience, and love. We couldn't do this without you.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Aaron loves Halloween.  Probably because his last name is Graves.  What are you going to be this year?  I am torn between"sexy otter" and "slutty Bob Segar".  Either way, now is the time to fill your metaphorical treat-or-treat bag with a sugary Halloween treat from THOSE LAVENDER WHALES.

As some of you may have noticed over the past two years, Mat is never not busy. This has probably been going on for longer than that, but 2 years is roughly how long we have been friends with him. Where as the last Coma Cinema full length came out a year and a half ago, he has since put out five releases under the moniker "Elvis Depressedly", an EP with "Gremlins", done a hand full of tours, recorded/mixed a bunch of artists, collaborated with Karmessiah as "Purge Team", and probably 100 other things that are unfortunately not at the front of my mind at this moment.

Today, his latest release from Elvis Depressedly (Hotter Sadness) is available for your download (or on cassette via the wonderful label Orchid Tapes). We hope that you download it, buy a cassette, and offer your support for some music that we love.

"So here we are.

When I arrived on the earth my mother was 18 years old. Her and my dad didn’t stay together for long, and I spent years in a spiraling, strange planet sometimes terrified sometimes so full of love that I couldn’t feel anything else. I started writing songs at 15 and since then that’s been my life. It has kept me alive and kept me going.

Now I’m 24. Broke, drunk most of the time, and I don’t know what’s going to happen. My equipment is all broken, so you’ll notice a drastic change in this albums fidelity, and my life is a mysterious and desperate struggle for some kind of feeling that I’m not sure exists. I know i’m not alone here.

I want to thank everyone for supporting me, I want to tell my family I love them very much, and I want to tell my friends that I appreciate what you’ve done to get me through. I love you more than I would ever know how to say.

The record is free to you, if you want to “pay what you want” you can, and maybe I can get a new mic stand or two. If you’d like to support the incredible tape label Orchid Tapes please do. The cassette comes with some neat extras, some of my favorite pictures my mom took, and other stuff.

Please be kind to yourself, know that your body and your soul is what you’ll need to heal others. Don’t ever fucking take it for granted.

Your pal,

Mathew Lee Cothran"
